| If any of you have a message you want passed on to everyone, let me know! Here are some I have received that I don't think they would mind being shared and that I think everyone might enjoy: (More recent notes are at the top) Dear Joy, It has been such a pleasure receiving all of the emails from you and our classmates. I am so sorry that I cannot attend due to obligations at work. I was unable to find a relief veterinarian to take over this weekend. I know that I will be missing a wonderful time. I will be with you in spirit. I appreciate all of your hard work at putting the reunion together. I know that you and other members of the committee put a lot of time, effort, and love making it the success I know it will be. I can't wait to see photos. I must also thank Van Cottom for his labor of love on the website. Thank you both for the great job you've done. I am sending a floral centerpiece to the Elks to be delivered midday tomorrow. I hope you will take it home with you or auction it off, whatever you wish. (I don't know if you are doing any fundraising to reimburse the committee for expenses.) Anyhow, it is a small token of appreciation. Please extend my fondest regards to my classmates. Party hearty! I can't believe it's been thirty years! God willing, I will make it to the thirty-fifth. Go Purple Eagles! With great affection, Lisa Rozgony RANDY HECKELSBERG:I am really impressed with the way this is all coming together for the reunion. Major kudos to you and Linda and all involved. I very much enjoy the email. Seeing all the replies is like getting a jump start on the reunion and it helps to stimulate those long dormant memory brain cells. When I fire up the old PC I find myself looking for the Garfield stuff first. I didn't know we had so many philosophers in our class ( although I always knew Sally was...). BECKY DEAN: I have not been able to get my email for awhile. The school has been upgrading and changing servers. I was in Tennessee last Monday and could not make the meeting. I am enjoying the notes from everyone and hope to contribute. KATHY PLUMMER:Thanks Joy for all the responses that you post. It is so much fun reading them and peering into others lives. You guys have done such a great job with this and having the ability to communicate online has been a terrific bonus. The times we have been in our private chat rooms with a bunch of girls has been a blast. Just a note for any of the guys who refuse to join us............we missed you. I look forward to coming back to Terre Haute next weekend and doing some serious catching up with old friends. Thanks again Joy!!!!! PAM PULLY-CASEThank you again, Joy for all of your hard work. It is great reading everyone's thoughts. Sally, you are still as crazy as ever. I will not be able to attend this year, flights from Denver are outrageous, but I will be thinking of all of you. Can't wait to see pictures. You can see mine on my web site at pulleycase@realtor.com. It seems like we are still missing a lot of people without email addresses. They are missing out on the fun. For those of you I have written to with no response, what a shame to miss the opportunity to reunite with old friends. For the rest of you who have, thanks and let's continue to keep in touch. PENNY FISKHi, Joy! Yes, I received the invitation. Sorry I didn't reply to you earlier. If we could make it, John and I would love to come, but our family vacation has been planned for some time. We'll be gone from 7/15 through 7/22/00. Nope, we haven't moved back to TH. John was back there working for a few months, but we didn't move back. It's been an extremely busy summer. My oldest daughter, Abbey(18), graduated from high school and will be attending the University of Georgia (Go Bulldogs!) We had orientation in Athens, GA, Thursday and Friday of this week. I'm having separation anxiety already!! Then, Kenzie(15) my youngest daughter, has been busy with youth church camps, driver's ed, and had surgery on her nose which was broken a couple of months ago during softball practice. Kenzie starts her freshman year at Woodland High School on 8/10, and Abbey starts her freshman year at UGA on 8/17. Summer is nearly over. John and I will be celebrating our 25th anniversary during our vacation next week. We were married 7/19/75. Don't you just love the internet! I have really enjoyed the sitespertaining to our class. John and I pulled up the site that Van Cottom has set up and we had a great time looking at the photos. Steve Bicking forwarded some stuff to us that you had sent him and it was great. I know you and the reunion committee have put a lot of time and effort into this special 30th class reunion. Please tell all "Hey, ya'll from Georgia", and good luck with the festivities! Please keep in touch and let me know how it all turned out. LINDA BAUER:I'm older than dirt. I'm not sure who I'm receiving these notes from. What to inform me? They are neat even though I'm beginning to feel the need to get my walker out. DENNIS LOVELADYDang, I'm older than dirt, having remembered all but three. :^) In fact, I owned my own 1964 Studebaker Hawk... in 1969-71. :^)Thanks; good memories. I like the song, "Do You Remember These," by the Statler Brothers. A lot of the stuff there predates even us, but it's fun to listen to, nonetheless. BARRY BAILY:I just worked it out Monday to be able to come. I hope it isn't to late but as the cliche goes the check's in the mail. 30 years? It seems like yesturday-----NOT ! Can't believe it's been that long ago but it also seems ages ago. I can't be 30 years older, I don't feel 30 years older, nah,it can't be 30 years. Look forward to seeing everyone. VERNA LEGG:Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. I won't be able to make it to the reunion this year. I already had something planned. Sorry!!! I will miss being with you all, but I hope you will give me plenty of details when it is all over! DEBBY WOOD:been super busy with my job, converting 3 companies into 1 now. We are coming to the picnic so far, just depends on how this transition goes. will write later d SUSAN HALLETT:Thanks for the information about the reunion. I won't be able to attend as my mother has Alzheimer's, and I can't leave her alone for a minute. She gets nervous when we are 10 miles away from home! Always something. I keep in touch with Liz Short. She tries to fill me in on news about some of our classmates. Anyway, I hope you all have a great time. I wish I could see you all. Tell everyone I said hello. Also, if any pictures are taken, please send info about ordering. DEBBIE SALTER:Joy........Dave and I won't be able to make it to the reunion because we will be in Florida on vacation at our Salter family reunion held every 10 years.Sorry to not be able to see everyone. Tell all HELLO and maybe we can make it to the next one. Take care and have lots o fun..........Deb SUSIE LOYD:I JUST GOT MY BUTT KICKED BY SALLY. SHE SENT ME A E-MAIL AND MADE ME FEEL BAD IF I DIDN'T GO. SO I'LL GET THE RESERVATION OUT ASAP. SHE STILL HAS THE SAME ATTITUDE ABOUT LIFE, SHE DIDN'T CARE WHAT ANYONE THOUGHT AND HAD A GOOD TIME ANYWAY. SHE'S ALWAYS HAD A POSITIVE ATTITUDE. I ASKED HER TO CALL ME WHEN SHE GOT INTO TOWN SO WE COULD GO TO DINNER AND SHOOT THE (----). WANNA COME?????? DEBBY WOOD:GUESS I'M OLDER THAN DIRT CUZ I REMEMBER ALOT OF THESE. THANKS ALOT FOR MAKING MY DAY HAHA DENNIS LOVELADY:I wish I could be there too. This'll be the first one I've missed. Depending on timing, I still might be able to make it. I'm trying like the dickens to find out now what to expect with the visa process. Hey, did I give you the band uniform that I used to have? Must have... I haven't seen it in a while. Anyway, I moved to GA from SC last year... was looking for the uniform to send to you, and found only the hat. I can't IMAGINE leaving that behind! Closets were bare. I hope you have it already. Have fun at that reunion... even if I *DO* show up. :^)Does anyone recall what may have happened to this band uniform? Let me know if you have any ideas. JoyAnita@aol.com NANCEE REED:Are you TRYING to make me feel old today??? LINDA BAUER:No, I haven't kept in touch with anyone. I haven't heard from Pam Roan since my wedding. I heard she's living in FL, but not sure. I don't think she's married. I got this info from her mom. Kerry divorced Alan and married a teacher and is living in northern IN the last I heard. She has another child (a girl I believe) but I haven't talked to her in ages. The only one that I kind of keep in touch with is Ron and Jane Andrews. He works at Kodak so there was a tie there at one time and we trade XMas notes about the families. They have two boys. Jane does some kind of cooking classes on TV I believe. (She's got more nerve than I do.) As for class photos; they would probably be at my sister's house in TH. Wemoved all the photos there after dad died in January and haven't had a chance to get through them. With one sister in Missouri and me in TN, we can't seem to get everything done. We did take a vacation together in AZ this year though. We try to go somewhere at least one week a year. Hoping to make San Fransisco next year. I'd love to get some correspondence. You can feel free to pass this on ifyou want. Can't wait to get the e-mail list. DAVID BLACK: I was wondering if it would be feasible to obtain the video our senior class produced for the senior dinner? As memory recalls I believe that Mike McCrea was the narrator for that and may still be in possession. Would be nice to see it again at the reunion. Does anyone know where this might be to help David out? I believe by the way that I will be able to make the dinner and will get my check off to you. SALLY THOMPSON (this was written to a dear friend but I thought it sound advice to all): The wonderful thing about getting older is that the things which drove us and motivated us in high school CHANGE from "external" and trivial and temporary to "internal" and significant and, dare I say "eternal?" ... People don't want to "see" you, they want to *see* you...hear what's been going on, get reacquainted, re-learn our relationships. . . . The great thing is that there will be very, very few of us females who have not radically changed...some of us just got phatter than others. I would not go back to the things of high school for nothing!!!! I WOULD, however, keep closer track of those I loved in high school. I cannot give you the kick in the butt you think you need to motivateyou to come to the class reunion. I can only tell you that I'll be there and if that's not enough to get you to come, all I can say is that I WILL BE very disappointed that we missed an opportunity to give each other a tearful hug and tell lies about how wonderful we were in school... :-) CAROL FENTON DAVISThanks for the "close your eyes and go back" it made me think of things I hadn't in a very long time. I hope you have a great time at the reunion. Have fun and let me know how things turn out . Carol SUE MORGE VANFOSSENYes we were in Terre Haute on the 24th of June for my parent's 50th ann. We were only there about 24 hours, since I didn't have any vacation left. So I know I won't be able to be at the reunion. We will also be moving our daughter back to college sometime in July, which will be another weekend long trip. She goes to school in Kansas, near where we used to live. This has been a very busy summer for us. We also moved Dale's parents back to Terre Haute on the 24th, they had lived down here for 6 months. Seems like we are really putting the miles on this summer. Tell everyone HI for me at the reunion, Bye, Susan SUE EVITT MOLER:I sent out my "regrets" yesterday. With Andy's schedule he really is not able to come and I don't want to leave him here by himself (well, we do have two dogs and a cat) but otherwise on his own. Also, my sister works at Bemis and she is scheduled to work from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. that week and she can't get any time off and since I don't come home often, I have to make sure that I can spend time with her. I really was looking forward to seeing everyone. If there are going to be any booklets, etc. like there were at prior reunions I'd like to have copies. Please let me know the cost and approximate postage and I would send you the money if you could send me copies. I am planning to come back to Indiana the third week of October. My sister has vacation that week and things here hopefully will have slowed down a bit. Maybe we can meet at the courthouse and go somewhere and have lunch. (If anyone local wants to join us let me know) LINDA BAUERWhere does Susan Morge live now. I need to write her. Haven't talked to her for ages and we used to get together several times a week since we lived so close. (Susan is in Granbury, TX 76048, 1105 Cliff Swallow Drive Dvan@itexas.net - Hey Sue, I need your telephone number) PAM PULLEY CASEAfter just spending the entire weekend in the car showing houses, this really hit home. I usually have to work weekends, but now I will find another day of the week just for me. Thanks for reminding me it isn't all about everyone else. Pam (CONCERNING WOMEN'S PERSPECTIVE)Okay, so do the guys go to half of this trouble for us? Pam MARY CRAWFORD BENSON:Joy, Thank you for sending the responses to all. It has been great reading them. It makes me want to know even more! I won't be able to make it to the reunion this year, but will be thinking of everyone. Have a great time and maybe I'll be able to attend the next one. Thanks again for all your hard work, I'm sure we all appreciate it! Mary STEVE BICKING: Hello again........Just a quick not to say thanks for the mail & your thoughts and prayers . they mean alot to me. JOHN ANDERSON:I was looking for high school articles and came across some basketball warm-up jerseys. I have one white, home and one purple for visitors. I really do not remember how I ended up with them, but I do have them. Do you want me to bring them, so you can put them up for display or auction off for the class? I think the website for the class of 1970 was done very good. I waswondering who had died in the past and who was still kicking. GOOD JOB ! IN RESPONSE TO THE WOMEN'S PERSPECTIVE OF CLASS REUNIONS SALLY THOMPSON WRITES: I guess what I want to know is: WHO'S BEEN LOOKING??? This is exactly how my "practice" run played out...I've always said that the only plastic surgery I'd ever be able to have is to have "zip-lock" baggies attached to my thighs so I would not even have to eat--I could just put the food where it's gonna end up anyway--save me the trouble of having to cook and clean up. Ya know?? Let's make a pack--I won't wear a girdle if you won't...what-d'ya say??? She also writes: Why not see how many folks remember "Dwee"....I was going through the year books tonight, trying to put names and faces (and emails) together and got the biggest kick out of reading some of the messages in the margins and flyleafs (Like we knew what a flyleaf was...). I'll be bringing my books with me. TAMI BROWN EDWARDS: (Response to Women's Perspective)AND... how did you know I had already ordered every body cinch Penney's has to offer ? (LOL) SALLY THOMPSON SPIRES: http://www.classmates.com/Joy, it appears several of our friends are already here. Why not invite the others to this site? I registered a couple of years ago and promptly forgot how to get back in...I'm waiting for an email to give me my password (again). Could be we could use this site for other things in the future. Also, I have a system on the web which enables me to share files, pictures, etc. it's called intranets.com. I use it to communicate with my family.(all the kids are online, of course!). Do you think this would be good to have? it costs nothing; everyone could go there to register (I could invite them and they simply follow the instructions in the email). It's different from a plain web site in that they can upload files and share web sites, etc. Also, it stores personal info like phone numbers, addresses, etc. Plus there's a place for calendar entries. I simply love mine and use it daily to share stuff with the kids. We can use our own logo, etc. I'll be bringing my yellow cords with me (I can't decide if I want to wear them on my right or left thigh...decisions, decisions.). Also, I'll have a laptop and a digital camera and will be able to take pictures; download them onto the computer and share them out to the crowd. Why not see if others will be bringing similar items so we can get them out to the group instantly. Isn't technology wonderful???? (Oh, I also like ordering out for dinner...I love being an empty nester!). :-) sally JILL GORBY BRETT:I sure wish I could come to the reunion, but too much family "stuff" is going on at the same time. Our son gets married August 5th and the family is all driving in from Indiana on the 2nd. Our daughter is pregnant and due Sept. 1st, so don't want to leave her at this time. Life is soooooo busy I wish it would slow down! Anyone that wants to come see the Cowboy Capital of the World here in Bandera, Texas is welcome. It is a fun place to visit and live. There are dude ranches and Bed and Breakfasts galore. Have fun and keep up the correspondence. It is great. Hope to see pictures sent after the reunion. Wonder if I will be able to guess who everyone is? BECKY DEAN CLEMENTS: I am enjoying the notes from everyone and hope to contribute. Let me know if there is anything else I can help with. The reunion is getting close. If I can I would like to put an order in for one of the Garfield glasses your husband is making. He is very talented with that etching and, the items he has made are very good. DON COTTRELL:I am very sorry to inform you that I will not be able to attend all of fun festivities this year. I was looking forward to coming to my very first one but due to prior commitments it will not be possible. My son plays baseball for Terre Haute South Vigo and he has been called upon by a scout from the Cincinnati Reds baseball team to come and tryout for this. It is a very important thing for my son and an opportunity like this does not come often. Again I'm very sorry about this but I do look forward to hearing about it. I often look up this web site to look back upon old times. You and Van and the committee have done a wonderful job. Look forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks again NICK NUGENT:You asked why we like Alaska and what I remember about Garfield. I well remember the Musical Bells are Ringing where I was a Member Barton's gang and had even borrowed a Motorcycle Jacket to look the part. I remember one night at practice a car load of guys going past the school in a convertable one standing in the back seat acting like he was driving a stage coach. I also remember John Certain almost wiping out a great long line of parked cars when he found a GTX has more power than a VW. I also remember trying to use one library pass for 3 people. Ask Allen or Mike about the getaway drive on the Turkey Caper which Dave Mobley had to return. The Turkey sat in Mr Silverman's desk for two days and he never saw it. There are many memories of setting in study hall on grey rainy days wanting to be somewhere else. I seem to remember my locker locations as Stan mentioned. I can remember Sitting by Judy Higgins in study hall one year and long hot spring afternoons in Mr Cronk's History class. I remember coming into the building by the custodial entrance, imagine such a thing today. Now do you rember WGHS and the sounds of Motown and the constant playing of Archie Bell and the Dells? Now Alaska. This is definate a land of superlatives. It is 350 miles toAnchorage and all the way only small towns of less than 1000 pop. I can leave my house hit a trail two blocks away and ride a snowmachine all the way to Nome 400 miles away and if I had enough gas never pass a single house or town. The sight of the Aurora Borealis stretching horizon to horizon. Getting up at 5 AM on a clear day and seeing Mt. McKinley 200 miles distant out our bedroom window. I like the sound of skis on snow at 15 below swishing as we go. Ilike seeing Moose in our yard all year. I have been here 23 years this week and have only twice seen the elusive Lynx silent in the woods. The smell of wood smoke and listening to logs pop in the wood stove. Have you ever heard a tree crack from the cold at -50 degrees? The Yukon river at midnight with the sun still low in the sky and Sea ice during August off the coast of Barrow. Midnight sun baseball games. Read Robert Service sometime. We have seen Salmon by the thousands swimming in water so clear it looks like they are floating in the air like many small Zepplins. I first came west in 1972 to the Grand Canyon and spent the summer of 1973 in Montana. I guess I have gained a western mind set during these years. If any of you ever come up look us up we are the Only Nugents in Fairbanks. LARRY PATE: hi joy, it's larry pate, what a great list of e-mail addresses you and linda have compiled, been receiving all your words of wisdom, really enjoy them. looks like i'll be attending our 30th, (does not seem possible, kids, grandkids time flies went you'r havin' fun) i'll send the necessary documentation this week, really busy, e-mailing and talking to barb a lot. who would have thought we would all turn into a bunch of modem-heads, our class seems to be twice as computer literate than anyother class. visited van cottom's website @ rose, may have surprises for all if the copywrite police don't get me. i never record a baseball game without the expressed written consent of the baseball commissionar!!! classmates.com has grone 4 fold since i discvered it 6 mos ago, i'd bet my athalon on that website hittin' bigtime in anyother 6 mos. i'm trying to get barb setup w/video and voice so we can communicate thru netmeeting for the cost of a local call to the ISP. i gotta go swim to sleep in my trusty ancient waterbed so i won't be mush mannanna, so i'll see you @ reunion and you better be wearing your devilrays baseball cap. |
